A Guide on Answering the South Korean Visa Application Form

As of August 2015, the embassy of the Republic of Korea released a new visa application form. Unlike the previous form, this one does not come with detailed guidelines on how to answer it.

Here is how we filled up ours:

**Fill up application form neatly, avoid erasures. Write in block letters and use black pen. Do not leave any blanks, instead, write not applicable or n/a.

Section 1: Personal Details

  • Family Name – write your name as it appears on your passport
  • Korean Name – put n/a
  • Sex – put a check mark on your gender

1.4-1.6 – self explanatory

  • National Identity No. – put n/a
  • Write n/a
  • Write other your other citizenship if you have any, otherwise write n/a

Section 2: Details of Visa Issuance Confirmation – skip, do not put n/a

Section 3: Passport Information – all answers are in your passport; write all dates in yyyy/mm/dd format

Section 4: Contact Information

4.1 Write your home address

4.2 Write if your current address is different from your home address. Otherwise, write same as above

4.3-4.6 Self explanatory

Section 5: Marital Status Details – if married, write your spouse’s information. If single, write n/a

Section 6: Education

6.3 Location of School – e.g. Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines

Section 7: Employment

7.1 – For housewives like me, I checked others and then wrote housewife on the space provided.

Section 8: Details of Sponsor – if you are invited by a Korean, or will be sponsored by a company, write the details in this section. Otherwise, put n/a

Section 9: Details of Visit

9.1 – Check purpose of visit to Korea. If you are going to Korea for a tour, you can also check others and write “family vacation” or “to watch kpop concert” just to make your intentions in entering Korea clear. In our case, we wrote “to experience summer in Korea”

9.2-9.3 – Write how many days you intend to stay in Korea and when you plan to arrive. Do note that the single entry visa is only valid for three months so it is advisable to apply at least a month before your planned visit. It is also not necessary that you have plane tickets when you apply but if you are willing to risk, you can buy those promo airfares and then worry about the visa later just like us 🙂

9.4-9.5 – Address and Contact no. in Korea (including hotels) – you can find hotels via booking.com or agoda.com which lets you reserve a room, pay later or cancel your reservations without a fee. If you don’t want to go through so much hassle, you can write undecided.

9.7 – Write all the countries you’ve been to for the last 5 years in the space provided, not including Korea. If the space is not enough, write it on a separate sheet. We had a bit of confusion on answering this one because in almost all of our travels, we stop for a few days in Singapore before we go to the next country and before going back to Manila (Yes, that’s how much we love Singapore). So here’s how we filled this one up:

Name of Country in English Purpose of Visit Period of Stay
(yyyy/mm/dd) -(yyyy/mm/dd)
SINGAPORE VACATION 2012/07/12 – 2012/07/13
2012/07/15 – 2012/07/16
THAILAND VACATION 2012/07/13 – 2012/07/15
SINGAPORE HONEYMOON 2013/10/13 – 2013/10/15
2013/10/17 – 2013/10/19
INDONESIA HONEYMOON 2013/10/15 – 2013/10/17

9.8 – Write the names of all the family members who will be travelling with you to Korea. If none, write n/a.

Section 10: Funding Details

10.1 – Write estimated travel cost for the entire trip in USD. Make sure your bank account supports what you write here. For our 6 days and 5 nights trip, we set our budget to US$900.

10.2 – Mr. G will be the one to fund for our trip, hence, we wrote his name. Type of support we answered “financial”.

Section 11: Assistance with this form – answer this if you got any help in answering the form. If not, write n/a

Section 12: Declaration – sign and don’t forget to write the date of your application. For children below 17 years old, a parent or legal guardian signs for them. Write your relationship with the applicant beside your signature.

Goodluck on your application! 🙂

Hi k-anne! Under section 7 Employment, if I tick “student” for my son, do I have to fill-up details of his school below or no need? because it says if “others” please provide details. Thank you!

I forgot to mention the name of the hotel in address section. I mentioned address only, can it create issue?
